Art of Evolution – by Pheonix Rising
Hey there, beautiful souls! It’s your girl Phoenix Rising, coming at you with some raw, real, and unapologetically honest truth. Whether you’re reading this from your college dorm, your first apartment, your childhood bedroom, or anywhere in between—welcome to this space where we talk about the messy, beautiful journey of becoming who we’re meant to be.
Why Evolution Never Really Ends (And That’s Actually Amazing)
Let me hit you with something that changed my entire perspective: Change is happening to you right now. Yes, literally as you read these words. You might not see it in the mirror tomorrow morning, but trust me, your evolution is in motion.
I was 26 years and 11 months old when this truth really hit me. Even when we can’t see progress on the outside, transformation is happening on the inside. Our cells are regenerating, our minds are processing new information, and our spirits are growing in ways we won’t fully understand until we look back months or years from now.
Here’s the thing about growth that nobody really talks about: it’s uncomfortable. I stepped on the scale a few days ago and—whew! Let me tell you, that number was disrespectful. But you know what? Even that moment taught me something about accepting where I am while working toward where I want to be.
Your Story Is Still Being Written
As long as you woke up this morning, God still has plans for your life. Your story isn’t over. That chapter you’re in right now—the one that feels too hard, too long, or too confusing—it’s not the final page. It’s just part of your journey.
On October 14, 2025, during praise and worship, God planted an idea in my mind. That seed eventually grew into my first children’s book, “Eat, Grow, and Jive,” now available on Amazon. Being a mother of two and writing from behind these walls, I’ve learned that your circumstances don’t define your purpose. God can birth something beautiful from any situation if you’re willing to listen and obey.
The Problem With Past Tense
We love to say things like “I’ve changed,” “I’ve grown,” or “I’ve evolved.” And yes, celebrating milestones is important—please celebrate yourself! You’ve earned it. But here’s where we get it twisted: all those “-ED” words suggest that you’re done. Finished. Complete.
News flash: You’re never actually done growing.
When you complete one race, you literally begin another one without even realizing it. So don’t get too comfortable, honey bun. Rest, recover, celebrate—but understand that your evolution is continuous. It’s not a destination; it’s a journey that lasts your entire life.
What Caterpillars Can Teach Us About Transformation
In my book “Eat, Grow, and Jive,” I introduce readers to Cateriz and Pillarius—two anxious caterpillars who are eager to skip the whole metamorphosis process and just become butterflies already. Can you relate? I know I can.
We want the glow-up without the grow-up. We want the butterfly moment without the cocoon season. But here’s what makes caterpillars’ lives even more complicated than ours: they never know when their transformation will occur. They just know it’s in their nature to evolve into something beautiful.
As humans, we’re more conscious about change. We notice the grey hairs creeping in around 60 (or earlier if stress is really doing its thing—no judgment if you’re dyeing on the low, sis). Kids lose their baby teeth around age 6. We can see and track these changes.
But for Cateriz and Pillarius? They have no idea when metamorphosis will hit. All they know is that evolution is built into their DNA. And honestly? That’s a powerful metaphor for our spiritual lives.
What Comes After the Butterfly Moment?
Here’s something most people don’t think about: What happens after you become the butterfly?
That transformation isn’t the end—it’s actually a whole new beginning. That’s another race with different obstacles, different challenges, and different opportunities to grow. If you haven’t been staying focused on God during your caterpillar stage, you might struggle when you finally get your wings.
This is why the foundation matters so much. This is why we can’t just coast through life doing whatever feels good in the moment. We need to be intentional about our growth, our faith, and our purpose.
Eat, Grow, and Jive: A Daily Spiritual Practice
The message of “Eat, Grow, and Jive” isn’t just for kids—it’s for all of us. It’s about living your day-to-day life with God as your anchor and spiritual leader. Here’s what that looks like:
EAT: Read the Bible, which is the fruit of knowledge. Feed your spirit with truth, wisdom, and God’s promises. You can’t grow spiritually while starving yourself of spiritual food.
DRINK: Praise the Lord through worship. Let gratitude flow from your lips. Even in hard seasons—especially in hard seasons—worship changes your perspective and strengthens your spirit.
JIVE: Keep moving through life, crawling forward even when you can’t see the finish line. Trust that you’re internally growing until God puts you in “meta mode”—that transformation season where everything changes.
While we’re waiting for our purpose to be fully revealed, we must put in the work. We can’t sit around idle, hoping life will just happen to us. We have to actively participate in our own evolution.
You Are Enough, Even With Your Imperfections
Let me be clear about something: You will never be perfect. The only perfect being already walked this earth, ascended into heaven, and is now seated at the right hand of God Almighty.
But here’s the beautiful truth: even with all your imperfections, you are enough in God’s eyes. Genesis 1:26 says, “Then God said, ‘Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us.'”
Can we just pause on that phrase “in our image” for a second? This means we will never be exactly like God. We’re a mirror—a reflection. Just like a photo can capture an image but can’t fully recreate the experience of being there, we reflect God’s nature without being God ourselves.
God knew we would be flawed. That’s exactly why He wants us to strive to be like Him. When He said “to be like us,” it wasn’t so we could boast or think we have God-level power. It was so we could acquire His characteristics:
• Kindness
• Forgiveness
• Compassion
• Patience
• Understanding
• Gentleness
• Joy
Surrendering the Steering Wheel
To truly evolve, we must accept that we aren’t the drivers of our own lives—God is. Whatever He tells us to do, we must obey. Wherever He tells us to turn, we must turn. Our lives are not our own.
I know this is hard to accept, especially in a culture that preaches “you do you” and “follow your heart.” But here’s the truth: spirits and principalities are real, and God knows what’s best for us in ways we simply can’t comprehend in the moment.
When you finally accept that God is in control, the growing pains become less painful when they occur. Not pain-free—but less overwhelming, because you know you’re not carrying the weight alone.
Evolution Happens Daily
Here’s your takeaway, your phone background quote, your journal entry for today: Evolution happens daily. Transformation happens every second of the day.
You are not the same person who started reading this blog post. You’re not the same person you were yesterday, last week, or last year. Some changes are visible; most are invisible. But all of them matter.
Your job isn’t to rush the process or force the timeline. Your job is to stay faithful, stay focused, and keep growing—even when it feels like nothing is happening.
