Real World Like Virtual – By Phoenix Rising | Teen Entrepreneurship

What’s good, my virtual nieces and nephews? It’s your girl Phoenix Rising back at it again, ready to dish out another daily dose of raw truth, inspiration, and motivation all rolled into one. Today, I’m speaking directly to you—the dreamers, the gamers, the future moguls who are building empires in Minecraft and Fortnite but haven’t realized yet that you can build the same thing in real life.

    My Gaming Reality Check

Look, I’ll be real with you—I’ve been away from the latest video games for almost four years now. I’m a little out of touch with what’s trending, but you know what? If my hubby keeps me updated through letters and phone calls, I’m not missing a beat. In my mind, I can still picture myself with a controller in hand, sitting in my rocking chair, vibing to the gameplay. That’s the energy I’m bringing today.

    Understanding the Virtual World’s Appeal

From what I understand about these virtual worlds—whether it’s Minecraft, Fortnite, Roblox, or The Sims—you’re basically living in an alternate universe. A place where you can be whoever you want to be with zero judgment. You get to build the character you’ve always wanted to be. You design the house of your dreams. You can pursue the career you’ve fantasized about. You can create the perfect family. You have complete control over your destiny.

And I get it. I really do. That’s powerful, especially when the real world feels limiting or overwhelming.

The Virtual Hustle: How Games Teach Real Business Skills

Now, if I mess up some of these gaming details, please don’t come for me in the comments, okay? I know these games are important to y’all. But from what I remember and what I’ve learned, these games are teaching you entrepreneurship without you even realizing it.

Take Minecraft, for example. You can get different jobs in these virtual worlds. You might start as a welder, building houses for other players. You earn coins that go into your virtual bank account. When you save up enough, you can buy better materials—newer hammers, cement, wood, decorations. You build your dream house, buy your dream car, and create the lifestyle you want.

The same concept exists in Fortnite with V-Bucks, in Roblox with Robux, and in almost every game with some form of virtual economy. You work, you earn, you save, you invest, you level up.

Here’s the truth bomb I’m dropping today: It’s literally the same thing in real life.

You Don’t Have to Wait Until You’re “Old Enough”

As a teenager, you don’t need to wait until you’re 16 to get a traditional, legal, government-sanctioned job. That’s where the hustler mentality comes in. You can find something you genuinely enjoy doing and turn it into income right now.

Let me give you a personal example that changed my life and taught me everything I know about entrepreneurship.

My journey: From Problem to Business Owner

When my daughter was just nine months old, she developed eczema—and I mean really, bad eczema. As a young mother, I felt helpless watching my baby girl suffer from irritated, inflamed skin. I didn’t have money for expensive dermatologist appointments or fancy creams that might not even work.

So you know what I did? I went on YouTube. I typed in “how to make eczema soap” and started researching like my child’s comfort depended on it—because it did.

What popped up in my research was simple: shea butter, oatmeal, and a few other natural ingredients. That was it. No complicated chemistry degree required. Just simple, natural ingredients that I could afford and access.

I mixed those ingredients together, let the soap settle and harden, and boom—a product was created. I tried it on my baby girl, and you know what? It worked. Her skin started healing. She stopped scratching. She could finally sleep through the night.

But I didn’t stop there. That success led me down a rabbit hole of natural skincare creation. I started making body butter using natural oils—shea butter, cocoa butter, and coconut oil. Then I experimented with facial serums. Then acne soap for teenagers struggling with breakouts. Then products for hyperpigmentation, scarring, and aging skin.

Before I knew it, High Cosmic Medic was born—my very own organic skincare product business. All because I saw a problem, found a solution, and had the courage to act.

The Formula: Turning Virtual Skills Into Real-World Success

Here’s what I learned from that experience, and here’s what I want you to understand: Where there is an idea, there will always be a way.

That dream job you fantasize about in your video games? You can have it in real life.

That dream house you’re building block by block in Minecraft. You can start saving for it today.

That business empire you’re creating in your virtual world. You can start laying the foundation at 14, 15, or 16 years old.

    Free Resources Are Everywhere

The beauty of living in 2025 is that information is free and accessible. There are:

    • Free trade programs in your community teach skills like welding, plumbing, electrical work, HVAC, and more
    • Free networking events where you can meet mentors and potential business partners
    • Free business plan templates on Google that walk you through exactly how to structure your idea
    • Free online certificates in digital marketing, social media management, graphic design, coding, and entrepreneurship
    • YouTube tutorials on literally anything you want to learn
    • Small Business Administration (SBA) resources offering free counseling and workshops
    • Local libraries with free access to business databases and career resources

You don’t need money to start learning. You just need curiosity and commitment.

Real Side Hustles You Can Start Today

Let me give you some concrete examples of side hustles teenagers are running right now:

    1. Car Detailing Services

Find somebody with a car wash business at 14 or 15 and tell them you want to work. They might let you vacuum out cars, clean windows, or help with pressure washing. Learn the ropes, then start your own mobile detailing service. Charge $15-20 to pressure wash driveways in your neighborhood. Offer car interior cleaning for $30-40. Before you know it, you’re booked solid every weekend.

    2. Social Media Management

You already spend hours on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Why not get paid for it? Local small businesses desperately need help managing their social media presence. Offer to run their accounts for $100-200 per month. Create content, respond to comments, and help them grow their following.

    3. Lawn Care and Landscaping

Invest in a good lawn mower (or borrow your parents’), print some flyers, and knock on doors in your neighborhood. Charge $25-50 per lawn depending on size. In the summer, you could easily make $500-1000 per week.

    4. Tutoring and Homework Help

If you excel in certain subjects, offer tutoring services to younger students. Charge $15-25 per hour. Parents are always looking for reliable, affordable tutors to help their kids succeed.

    5. Handmade Products

Just like I did with skincare, you can create and sell handmade items: jewelry, candles, bath products, art, custom clothing, baked goods, or digital designs. Set up an Etsy shop or sell at local markets and craft fairs.

    6. Content Creation

Start a YouTube channel, TikTok account, or blog about something you’re passionate about. While monetization takes time, building an audience now sets you up for future income through sponsorships, affiliate marketing, and ad revenue.

    The Real-World Leveling Up System

Here’s how you apply the gaming mentality to real life:

Level 1 (Ages 14-15): Start your side hustle. Learn the basics. Save every dollar you earn. Even if it’s just $50-100 per month, that adds up fast.

Level 2 (Ages 16-17): Reinvest some of your earnings into better equipment or expanding your services. Build your reputation. Get customer testimonials. Create a simple website or strong social media presence.

Level 3 (Ages 18-19): Register your business officially. Open a business bank account. Start thinking about scaling—can you hire help? Can you serve more customers? Can you raise your prices?

Level 4 (Ages 20+): Now you’ve got years of experience, a solid customer base, savings in the bank, and the knowledge to build your empire. While your peers are just starting to think about their careers, you’re already a seasoned entrepreneur.

My Message From Behind These Walls

I’m going to be straight with you about why this message means so much to me. I’m 27 years old, a mother of two beautiful children, and I’m currently incarcerated. I made choices that led me here—choices I deeply regret, choices that took me away from my babies, choices that hurt the people who loved me.

But you know what? Even from behind these walls, I refuse to waste my time. I refuse to let my story end here. I’m using this time to educate myself, to write, to reach young people like you so you don’t make the mistakes I made.

The streets aren’t glamorous. Fast money comes with devastating consequences. The “easy way” leads to the most complex life you could imagine. Trust me—I’m living proof.

But entrepreneurship? Legitimate business ownership? Building something with your own hands and mind? That’s real power. That’s generational wealth. That’s freedom that nobody can take away from you.

Find Your Trade and Execute Your Plan

All the things you’re doing in the virtual world—on Minecraft, Fortnite, Roblox, or The Sims—you can absolutely do in real life. You must find those real-life trades that mirror what you love in your games.

Love building in Minecraft? Look into construction, carpentry, or architecture.

Love creating skins and designs? Explore graphic design, fashion design, or product development.

Love managing resources and economies in games? Study business, finance, or entrepreneurship.

Love competing and leveling up? Channel that energy into sports, academic competitions, or business challenges.

    Here’s your action plan:

    1. Identify what you love doing (even if it’s just in games right now)
    2. Research the real-world version of that activity
    3. Find someone already doing it successfully who can mentor you
    4. Write out a simple business plan (Google has free templates)
    5. Take the first small step today—not tomorrow, not next week, TODAY
    6. Execute consistently, even when it’s hard, or you don’t see immediate results

If you need help, guidance, or direction, reach out. Find somebody already in that trade who can show you the ropes. Most successful people love helping young hustlers who remind them of their younger selves.

Keep Leveling Up in BOTH Worlds

I’m not telling you to stop playing video games. I’m not saying your virtual achievements don’t matter. What I’m saying is this: Use the same energy, creativity, and dedication you put into your games and apply it to your real life.

You already know how to grind. You already know how to level up. You already know how to overcome obstacles and defeat bosses. You already have everything you need to succeed—you just have to transfer those skills from the screen to reality.

    Let’s Connect

I want to hear from you. What entrepreneur ideas do you have? What are you passionate about? What problems do you see in your community that you could solve? What trade or skill are you interested in learning?

Drop your thoughts in the comments or send us an email at [page@gmail.com]. If I have the tools, connections, or knowledge to help point you in the right direction, I absolutely will. That’s my purpose—to help young people avoid the path I took and instead build something meaningful and lasting.

    Final Words: Your Real-World Victory

My virtual nieces and nephews, I hope nothing but the best for you in your real world. Keep leveling up while you’re leveling up in Minecraft and Fortnite. Build your empire both on-screen and off-screen.

Remember: You are capable of extraordinary things. Your age is not a limitation—it’s an advantage. You have time, energy, creativity, and access to unlimited information. Use it wisely.

Don’t let anyone tell you that you’re too young to start. Don’t let fear hold you back. Don’t take the shortcuts that look tempting but lead nowhere good.

Build your real world like it’s virtual—with intention, creativity, and determination. The difference is, in the real world, you can’t respawn. Make your one life count.

Stay hungry. Stay humble. Stay hustling—the legal way.

    Much love and respect,
